Buyer Behavior

Juul/Phix pods vending machine dispensaries

  • The segment that I have decided to focus on for this activity, is college students that live on, or near campus, that have a hassle in getting Juul/Phix Pods.
  • Why do consumers value when choosing a product
 1.Interview 1
  •  For my first interview, I decided to interview a current freshmen at the University of Florida that I met at my business club. The first thing I asked Adam was where he gets his Juul pods, and why does he get them there? Adam said " As of right now, I get my Juul pods at whatever smoke shop or gas station has them closest to me." Adam explained how he hasn't been able to find a shop that consistently has the pods or flavors he wants. Adam explains that he doesn't mind paying a little more if he could consistently buy the flavors he wanted from one place. Adams explained that flavor and consistency of actually having the flavors he wants, and pods in the first place, is what is most important to him when buying Juul Pods.
2. Interview 2
  •  For my second interview, I met with a fellow classmate of mine, who I take Macro-Economics with. I decided to interview Alex for my second interview of this specific segment. I first asked Alex to explain his process of buying a Juul and if he has a problem with it , to see if the need that my economic need is based on applied to him. Alex also had extreme difficulties buying the pods and flavors that he wanted, and expressed great frustration over this process. I then proceeded the interview by asking Alex where he gets his pods now, and why does he get them there? Alex explained to me that he goes all the way to the edge of town, almost at I-75, to go to a discreet smoke shop that many people don't know about. Alex explains that although, this place doesn't sometimes have the flavor he wants, they at least most of the time have some pods. I asked him what was the biggest thing he wanted when buying pods, and he said " I don't care to much about a little change in price, I rather be able to go somewhere closer and get the pods I want for a little more."
3. Interview 3
  •  For my final interview buyer behavior, I decided to interview a senior at the University of Florida. I met Matt near Marston, and interviewed him to test out why my segment of potential customers choose to buy a certain product. I first made sure he had the need of getting Juul pods, and the flavors he wanted, and he did. Then, I preceded to ask him where he currently gets his pods from and why? Matt said" I just try to get them at whatever gas station I'm getting gas at, or around, but have had extreme difficulty finding pods." Following this answer , I asked Matt what makes him decided buy pods at one place or another , if its price or style or what? Matt said " All I want is to be able to go somewhere relatively close to me, that will have consistent pods with the flavors I want."
These three interviews show me that consumers right now are choosing to buy their pods, wherever they can based on who has them unstuck. This shows that consumers rather pay a little more but have a place where they can consistently buy certain pods and flavors.

Comments

  1. Your interviews confirm your prediction on buyer behavior. People are willing to pay premium in order to consistently get the product they want. This confirms your thoughts that this is indeed a viable market that can not only exist but thrive. So as long as you can manage your stock to stay at a consistent level the demand will be there and get you the margins you need.

  2. You are going to be able to benefit a lot knowing that people will pay a little extra for the pods that they want. If you can consistently have the popular flavors in your vendors with them not running out, charging a little more will eventually add up big time. I agree with Esteban, if you are able to manage your stock and stay consistent with all flavors, it will not be an issue charging a little more.

  3. I think that these interviews that you conducted are going to tell you a lot of information going forward in your project. I believe that, now that you know people will go out of their way to buy the pods they want, that your idea can be put into full motion immediately. There will be an active market within Gainesville, at least that is what I gathered from your interviews.
